Will the surface peel off?

No, our fusing process incorporates the surface layer into the wood fiber continuously as one phase. In testing by an independent lab, the surface layer will not peel off even when scored or scratched.

Why can’t I see a distinct layer?

Rather than being a specific ‘layer’, our patented technology actually brings more of the UV, stain resistance, and mildew-resistance additives to the surface. This is continuously blended into the material. That is why scratching and hardness is not a concern. Several companies that specialize in testing the thickness of coextrusion layers have not been able to detect a distinct boundary between the wood composite substrate and the cap layer.

How come the factory saw cut is chipped?

This happens because the product is hot when we cut it at the factory and our saws cut up from underneath (this also happens on our standard material). You can trim the ends if you like (all of our decking is cut at least 1” longer than nominal to provide for trim stock). When cut at the jobsite, the product will not chip in this way because it has had a chance to cool down. Consider cutting it upside down using a sharp carbide blade for the cleanest cut.

What is the cap layer made of?

It is made of a proprietary blend of scratch, stain, and antimicrobial additives with and anti-slip grit incorporated into our super-hard Polypropylene base.

What happens if the cap layer is scratched through and shows the substrate?

This is no cause for alarm. The substrate contains all of the necessary UV stabilizers and is unaffected.

Will the surface ever wear off?

Under normal conditions, the surface will last indefinitely. If exposed to high wear or abrasion, some wearing is possible. If any of the substrate becomes exposed, this is no cause for alarm. It contains the same UV stabilizers as the rest of the composition and is not affected.

Why did you develop CorrectDeck CX?

In listening to the decking marketplace, we learned that there has been a value gap between what people expect of a composite decking product and what is available. We saw a need for a truly low maintenance decking product, with all of the benefits of composite decking, but none of the drawbacks. CorrectDeck CX is the only product on the market that sovles the top three concerns that composite decking customers have: color fading, staining, and mold/mildew resistance.

How long will the antimicrobial last?

As you can probably understand, we can’t predict exactly because every exposure is different. The important thing to remember is the additive is incorporated into CorrectDeck CX in the manufacturing process, not painted or dipped. So it will not soak back out, and it creates a reservoir of antimicrobial additive that will replenish the surface over time. You can expect the antimicrobial additive to inhibit the growth of many types of mold & mildew for five years or more. After five years, the product still has a much reduced tendency to stain or spot from mold and mildew, since there is little or no exposed wood fiber.

Is the antimicrobial safe for children?

Yes, when used in accordance with our instructions. The additive used in CorrectDeck CX with Microban is the same as that commonly used in antimicrobial hand soap or dandruff shampoo. The MSDS is the same as that of standard CorrectDeck.

How do I match a cut edge to the coated edge?

Use classic squareedge profile to match up or for ripping. If necessary, use our touch up markers.

Use our CorrectDeck CX Classic profile to match up or for ripping. If necessary, use our touch up markers. . And try our Channeled router bit along one edge of classic, for picture framing.

Is it slippery?

It is not slippery under normal conditions and is ADA compliant.

Can I power wash it?

Yes, at low pressure (below 1200 psi) but it will not normally be necessary - a garden hose will remove most stains and dirt.

Can I use bleach?

Bleach is not recommended and not normally necessary. Simply use laundry soap and water to clean.

Can I stain or paint it?

No.

How do I remove scuffs, should they occur?

As with any decking surface, heavy sand or grit or heavy furniture can scuff CorrectDeck CX, even though it is very hard. Many scuffs can be removed with a hair dryer or paint stripper gun, held 4” from the surface (be careful not to cause a blister). Also, we offer CorrectDeck CX touch up markers & care kits for repair of deep scratches or gouges.

Do you plan to discontinue standard CorrectDeck?

No, standard CorrectDeck has been around for many years and is an excellent product and we are proud of it. We anticipate selling it for many years to come.
